Soon Samsung won’t be the one and only name in the foldable flagship phone game. Rising tech brand Honor pulled out all the stops on the first day of this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain by announcing trio of drool-worthy devices that are all on track for a global release.
Heading up Honor’s new models is the Honor Magic Vs, the company’s very own flagship foldable that supposedly does everything the Galaxy Z Fold 4 does, but even better. It’s not exactly brand new if you’re living on the bleeding edge of consumer tech, but the announcement for it now marks the first time that it has been given an actual global release date. And a global price tag, for that matter.
Honor already made a huge effort with its comeback earlier this year by announcing and releasing the midrange X9a 5G. Now it clearly has its sights set on the top-end of the market: the Honor Magic Vs looks primed to take the foldable phone crown.
What’s special about the Honor Magic Vs?
Judging from the spec sheet, it seems as if Honor looked at what the competition have been doing in the foldable phone space and simply decided to make something better. For instance, it comes in at just 12.9mm thick while folded, which is even thinner than the closest competitor at its thinnest point. Secondly, it apparently “folds tightly” and produce a slightly lesser perceived gap due to the way it’s built. And finally, it’s rated as good for up to 400,000 folds, which comes out to double what Samsung advertises for its own products.
Honor Magic Vs specs
So it has all that going for it, and of course, it also boasts some truly high-level hardware specs, which include:
- 6.45-inch external screen with 21:9 aspect ratio, 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, and 120Hz refresh rate
- 7.9-inch internal screen with 10.3:9 aspect ratio and 90Hz refresh rate
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor
- At least 12GB RAM and 512GB of storage
- Triple rear camera setup – 54MP main cam, 50MP ultrawide cam, and 8MP telephoto cam
- 5,000mAh battery with up to 66W fast charging
In terms of software, the Magic Vs will ship with Honor MagicOS 7.1, which is based on Android 13. It will also come with a few software features and widgets pre-installed that are meant to improve multitasking and user productivity.
According to Honor CEO George Zhao, the Magic Vs is part of an overall commitment to address the real needs of its customers. “Honor adopts a human-centric approach to product innovation,” he said in a statement, “offering intuitive technology solutions to improve the daily lives of everyone.”
Honor Magic Vs price and availability
In true “global release” fashion, the Honor Magic Vs will be released first in the UK this June 2023. For those interested in early adopting it, its global price starts at €1,599 or $1,690, which amounts to just a little over Php 93,000.
Local release date info still isn’t available yet but it will likely be announced over the next couple of months. We’re keeping our eyes locked onto Honor’s local site and social media pages in the meantime to get first dibs.
