We want our screens to be bigger but our phones to be smaller. Samsung’s way of dealing with this conundrum? Make them foldable. For that reason, the company has just announced yet another folding smartphone in the form of the Galaxy Z Flip.
As the successor to last year’s Galaxy Fold, the Galaxy Z Flip aims to fix all the mistakes of the original while offering something different. We think it’s safe to say that Samsung has now thrown everything but the kitchen sink at this problem of building a compelling foldable phone. It seems like this one will be hard to top.
The first thing you need to know about the Galaxy Z Flip is that its compact folding frame is actually home to a massive 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2.0 display. Second, it has two separate screens on it, the first one being the folding Infinity Flex Display mentioned earlier. It also has a smaller secondary display on the outside when it’s folded in half. It’s designed mainly for notifications and quick glance items, but still uses a Super AMOLED panel like it’s nothing.
The Galaxy Z Flip is also packing, camera-wise. It has dual 12MP rear cameras with up to 8x digital zoom and a 10MP front cam with a fairly wide 80-degree FOV for selfies.
The rest of the Galaxy Z Flip’s specs paint a picture of a pretty respectable high-end Android phone: 8GB RAM, 256GB internal storage, 3300mAh dual battery with Fast Charging, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, Wireless PowerShare, and Android 10.
Beyond the specs, the Galaxy Z Flip is a phone that offers a fashionable and stylish experience. Samsung itself says as much in its official press materials. Its launch colors — Mirror Purple and Mirror Black — also indicate that it’s most likely geared towards fashionistas. We get that it’s incredibly interesting but maybe not so much for regular techies. Still, it’s got style points for sure.
Release date and availability
While full release details are still hard to come by, we do know from local sources that the Galaxy Z Flip will be released – in limited quantities – starting in February 21, 2020. Just how limited, we are unable to confirm right now. Its international retail price is just a hair under 70k Pesos, in case you wanted to know. That’s the price you have to pay to be one of the known trendsetters in case these things ever catch on.
