Yahoo Groups, which is still around for some reason, is going to be shut down on October 21. Then, not much later on December 14, all of the content on the online platform is going to be deleted.
In a post that appears on the official Yahoo Groups help center, the following announcement has been made:
Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 28, you won’t be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed.
While the great majority of the open internet may not really care for it anymore, Yahoo Groups was and still is an enormously useful resource. This news is a bit shocking, but not too surprising if you think about it.
If you’re still among those who use Yahoo Groups on a regular basis, there’s a list of FAQs presented on Yahoo’s help center announcement especially for you. It mentions that users have until December 14 to save anything that they’ve ever uploaded to the platform and want to keep accessing through other ways online.
We don’t know that anyone who’s hip to new tech still uses Yahoo Groups for anything regularly these days. Many online platforms can now outdo Yahoo Groups in terms of features and perhaps in number of daily active users. Easily, at that. But it’s undeniable: those who do still use it will surely see this as a huge blow.
