Epson has once again launched a new model in its line-up of smart glasses under the Moverio brand, this time with an apparent aim of making them more compatible with mainstream consumer devices. The newest pair of smart glasses from Epson is called the Moverio BT-30C, and it’s going to be one of the more affordable options to get a taste of modern augmented reality.
The Moverio BT-30C is said to offer a high-resolution, big-screen experience directly through a user’s line of sight. The best thing about it is that it can connect to either Android or Windows-powered devices, and that is through the standard port of USB-C.
As a USB device, the BT-30C is a simple plug-and-play solution that should allow most anyone to access a wide range of AR content pretty much instantly. These include things like AR entertainment apps, mobile games, and even content captions. Basically, it can be used as an AR add-on to existing devices on Windows or Android.
“Over the past eight years, Epson has been committed to expanding the applications and capabilities of the wearable display category, and the introduction of the Moverio BT-30C brings to market an affordable, high-quality and comfortable wearable display solution that leverages the content, connectivity and power of a smartphone,” said Eric Mizufuka, Epson America’s Product Manager for AR.
“Whether delivering immersive mobile gaming content, real-time captioning and entertainment translations, or augmenting tourist and theme part experiences, the compact Moverio BT-30C smart glasses allow users to experience and interact with content in a whole new way.”
Prior to the BT-30C, Epson’s Moverio smart glasses have tended to be geared more towards industrial applications. With continued development of this new model as well as those that may follow after it, AR-enabled smart glasses that are truly for the average tech-savvy consumer may arrive sooner rather than later.
The Moverio BT-30C is now available for pre-order and will start shipping in June for $499 or around Php 26,000 apiece.
